We take pride in creating every smile, and we aim to teach you how to protect yours. The benefits of orthodontic treatment will last a lifetime only if you wear your retainers consistently.

Once the active orthodontic appliances are removed, our patients receive retainers to stabilize and retain their corrections. Failure to wear the retainers may result in undesirable movement of the teeth or relapse, which could lead to needing re-treatment. Dr. Romero works with you to determine the best type of retainer to keep your smile looking great.

RETAINERS WE OFFER

  • Bonded/Fixed Retainers

  • Clear/Essix Retainers

  • Hawley Retainers

  • Nightguards

  • Sportguards

Dr. Romero will review with you how often your retainers should be worn.

  • Most often, we recommend wearing your retainers 22 hours/day for the first 3 months after we finish orthodontic treatment.

  • Nighttime for a Lifetime

    • After the first 3 months with your retainers, Dr. Romero recommends that you wear them while sleeping every night to maintain your corrections.

NIGHTGUARDS

  • Custom nightguards can function as a retainer for patients that excessively clench or grind their teeth.

  • Some patients benefit from a nightguard to protect their teeth from excessive wear and/or to help improve TMJ discomfort.

  • Dr. Romero will determine if a nightguard is the most appropriate option for your smile.
