Our goal is to give you your best smile and encourage you to show it off with pride! The best smiles include healthy gums, which straight teeth and a healthy bite promote, but sometimes we need just a bit more. Here’s how Dr. Romero and our soft tissue diode laser can help.

GINGIVECTOMY

  • Gingivectomy is a procedure that involves the removal of unhealthy or excess gum tissue (gingiva), revealing your beautiful teeth, reducing the depth of gum pockets, and promoting oral hygiene. A quick and simple contour of the gums can dramatically improve your finished smile and improve dental maintenance. Dr. Romero also offers gingivectomy without comprehensive orthodontic treatment.

  • Gingivectomy begins with precise analysis of the teeth, bone, and gums via intraoral exam, x-rays, and diagnostic photographs. Dr. Romero then takes measurements of the teeth and gums to plan the procedure using principles of both mini- and micro-esthetics. This involves mapping out the exact measurements of the tissue to be removed to ensure accuracy.

FRENECTOMY

  • Frenectomy is a procedure that involves removing excess connective tissue of a frenum/frenulum and repositioning its insertion point on the gums. This can help to prevent orthodontic relapse, improve the gingival aspects of smile esthetics, increase lip/tongue mobility, reduce the risk for future gum recession, etc.

  • We have many frena located throughout the mouth, and Dr. Romero checks each one during your initial consultation to evaluate your needs. The most common ones to need help with repositioning are the maxillary and lingual frena.

  • When indicated, Dr. Romero typically performs a frenectomy near the end of orthodontic treatment or once you have moved into retainers.
